In his presentation, Dr Joseph Ssekandi, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, discussed the progress of the PrAEctiCe project, focusing on areas including gender role disparities, awareness and capacity building, and the necessity of utilising ICT tools to engage the younger generation and the educated populace.
At the workshop, Ms Joan Bahati elaborated on the precise mapping of East African agroecology practices. Attendees reached a consensus that promoting community engagement and knowledge sharing among farmers, researchers, and local communities, along with implementing participatory research, would significantly contribute to advancing progress in agroecology.
Dr Joseph Ssekandi delivered a presentation on the analysis of Integrated Aquaculture Practices in East Africa, specifically focusing on establishing a consensus regarding the definition of integrated aquaculture and identifying the current locations where aquaculture practices are being implemented.
During the discussion, Charles Tumuhe, Project Officer for the Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa (AFSA), initiated a dialogue concerning the shift toward a sustainable future and the methodologies for gauging advancements. Hellen Naigaga provided detailed insights into the Decision Support Tool, highlighting its role in facilitating farmers’ transition to agroecology.
The Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture concluded by expressing gratitude for the work done and emphasised the importance of fostering collaborations with both students and faculty members to expand the project network further.
