PrAEctiCe project is funded by the HORIZON Europe programme under Grant Agreement number 101084248

Where does PrAEctiCe work?

Kisumu, Kenya
Situated on the shore of Lake Victoria, an existing demonstration site will be revamped within PrAEctiCe as a living bioeconomy lab. The pilot aims to establish a sustainable Integrated aquaagriculture (IAA) system based on innovative technologies such as floating PV panels on fish ponds and a membrane bioreactor to treat wastewater for replenishing the fish ponds. The information collected will be used to validate the PrAEctiCe Decision Support Tool (DST).

Morogoro, Tanzania
The living lab will be constructed from an existing aquaculture production line at the Farmer Training Centre – Sustainable Agriculture Tanzania, located in a tropical/savanna zone. This pilot will gather information and validate the PrAEctiCe DST regarding IAA, particularly in a fish-poultry integration system. The set-up will include vegetable production using aquaculture sludge and poultry manure as fertilizers and aquaculture wastewater as irrigation water.

Kajjansi, Uganda
The aquaponics (aquaculture-hydroponics) pilot will work in an existing hydro aquaponics facility located at the National Crop Research Resources Institute (NaCRRI), Namulonge Wakiso district, in a typical tropical/rainforest region. The water-energy-nutrient resources will be optimised in this pilot, and the PrAEctiCe DST will be validated for aquaponics.
