The meeting brought together FAO country representatives and technical teams, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing among nations facing similar agricultural challenges. The day’s agenda featured an in-house tour of the institute, providing attendees with a firsthand look at innovative research and development initiatives. Participants also explored exhibition stalls.
During the visit, the National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO) presented the Integrated Aqua-Agriculture Living Lab, which was established under the PrAEctiCe project.
Aquaponics at the Kajjansi Living Lab boasts numerous benefits, demonstrating exceptional water use efficiency and a significant reduction in the need for nutrient supplementation. This system’s ability to yield more than two crops from a single input source marks a remarkable advancement in sustainable farming practices. The facility features six independent aquaponic units that combine media-bed systems with deep water culture (DWC) systems, cultivating crops such as tomatoes and lettuce.
