PrAEctiCe at the Science and Partnerships for Agriculture Conference

The 2024 edition of the Science and Partnerships for Agriculture Conference (SPAC) was held in Kigali, Rwanda, from July 29-31, and hosted its usual lead conferences among many other convenings; it hosted the Third Biennial Africa Climate Smart Agriculture Conference; the Knowledge Management for Agricultural Development (KM4AgD) conference, the AU-EU Horizon Europe partnership projects coordinated by FARA, a workshop on advancing the application of foresight in African agriculture and a reflection workshop on the AfDB-supported Technologies for African Agriculture (TAAT) programme, plus several others

PrAEctiCe partner representative Charles Tumuhe, Agricultural extension, training and rural development expert, AFSA participated in the conference and presented the project. During his address, he advocated for the co-creation and ownership of agricultural knowledge and the pursuit of food sovereignty through various agroecology policy strategies.

Examples of these strategies included the promotion of agroecological practices, support for farmer-managed seed systems, and the development of African agroecological entrepreneurship and territorial markets. The conference also focused on soil health issues, highlighting the necessity for improved soil health practices, policy backing, and capacity building.

The conference presented an opportunity to engage high-level individuals from the agricultural sectors of Africa and Europe in collaborative efforts to address pressing emerging issues impacting the continent. The four conferences, along with their respective participants, will furnish crucial technical and policy information stemming from diverse engagements.
