PrAEctiCe co-hosts a workshop at the Open Living Lab Days in Romania

The three-day workshop was held in Timisoara, Romania, at the prestigious ICAM Institute for Advanced Environmental Research. It brought together living labbers, public officials, corporate leaders, entrepreneurs, academics, and innovators worldwide to explore living lab challenges, solutions, and current trends through engagement and collaboration.

The event themed “LIVING LABS FRONTIERS: Driving Systemic Change through Societal Engagement for Real Impact,” had different tracks to engage participants that were either involved in a Living Lab setting or interested in the Living Lab approach, particularly within agricultural research and extension. The event tracks covered important aspects of living labs like; social challenges, policies, governance, innovation ecosystems, inclusive social engagement, business, emerging technology, living lab operation, methods, and impact.

PrAEctiCe, CIRAWA, CANALLS, and NATAE were represented by Patricia Carbonell, Head of REVOLVE Barcelona, Kiki Argyropoulou, Project Manager at Q-PLAN International, Margherita Trestini, Co-Founder and General Manager of Apodissi, and Marilena Reinhard-Kolempas from Wageningen University. They participated in an inclusive workshop, themed “Deployment of Living Lab Approaches in Africa for Sustainable Agriculture,” where they explored Living Lab operations, methods, tools, and their impact. This session was particularly significant for PrAEctiCe as we continue to drive the agroecological transition of farmers in East Africa through living labs in different regions.

A key takeaway, as highlighted by a participant from Tunisia, was the diversity in approaches to establishing living labs by collaborating with local farmers. This grassroots involvement is crucial for innovation and collaboration, unlocking immense development potential. Living labs provide a space where local knowledge, sustainable practices, and innovative solutions can be combined to empower communities and foster more resilient agricultural systems.
