“The DST puts actionable insights into the hands of farmers,” said Nicholas Outa. “It helps monitor water quality, soil health, and farm productivity, offering advisory alerts and enabling peer knowledge sharing.”
The living lab component of the project received particular attention, as these real-world testing grounds represent the practical application of the project research, demonstrating how these living labs function simultaneously as innovation hubs for sustainable practices, training centers for farmers and extension workers, and demonstration sites for policymakers.
PrAEctiCe’s contribution aligned closely with the conference’s sub-themes, offering practical strategies for boosting soil health, empowering women and youth, enhancing market access, and informing policy. Discussions following the presentation sparked interest in scaling the DST across the region, adapting tools for low-tech users, and expanding the living lab network.
